These conditions can include people with mobility difficulties or hip fractures, Autism, Alzheimer’s disease, Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s, and many other conditions or injuries.

Patients with special needs have an increased need for preventive dental care; for the prevention of caries and periodontal diseases. Patients with special needs often face difficulties to care for their oral health, requiring help from others. The participation of family members or caregivers in their care is essential for the success of their dental treatment and for promoting the patient's oral health. The higher the level of dependence of the patient, the more care the caregiver should take to promote hygiene and preventive care.

Dr Boldori understands the challenges he must face when treating special needs patients.  His first step is to build a positive rapport with the patient and family as well as gathering information about any medical conditions. It should be noted that many of these patients present with organic complications.
